Wes called Michael today to say that we do not have a HLA match in our family for David. We are a little disappointed, but we have not lost hope. We feel David is blessed with a strong immune system compared to the other WAS children we have read about. We would have loved to have a sibling match to fall back on but it's not in the plan for David. We prayed for a match and I know many friends and family were praying for the same thing but it's just not in the plan for David's life right now. In one way, the HLA results have helped us in the decision process because there really is no decision to make right now.
We will see a BMT physician next Tuesday. The insurance requires us to have a consultation with a BMT doctor before David is entered into the national marrow registry. I'm not sure where this will take us. There are several scenarios that I need to get more information about before speculating.
