David will be admitted to Stanford on July 16 and the BMT transplant will happen on July 25.
On June 27, he has a GFR (Glomerular Filtration Rate) test. This is an all day kidney function test. Since he will have chemotherapy, it is standard procedure to check the kidney functions. It won't hurt. They inject a radioactive dye (supposedly less radiation than an x-ray) into the Hickman lumen and pull blood samples out of the second lumen. It's time consuming though. Thankfully, we'll be able to leave between tests and get out in the fresh air.
In the past two weeks David had 6 chest xrays, 1 sinus xray, three dental xrays, and a heart ultrasound that lasted 1-1/2 hours. That's a lot of radiation and sound wave exposure in such a short amount of time. He had a pelvis protector. I had to hold him down for all of these. They gave me a protective apron with a thyroid protective collar.
