The time has finally come! We arrived at Stanford at 9:00am. Right off the bat the nurse Leslie gave him four preventive drugs. (1) Fosphenytoin, which prevents seizures. The chemo drug, Bulsulfan can cause seizures but he hasn't started Bulsulfan yet. (2) Acyclovir, which prevents and treats herpes. David does not have herpes. The nurse explained that children who are immunosuppresed often break out with herpes if it's dormant. (3) Actigall, which is a bile acid to treat gallstones and prevent VOD (veno occlusive disorder). (4) Fluconazole, which prevents and treats fungus infections. Again, David has none of these problems. He is not immunosuppressed yet, but in the next few days will be. The drugs are preventive. This is just the beginning. Don't be surprised to hear about 16, or so, more drugs during the course of our stay here. I'm sorry. I know it's hard to understand and accept. He will continue to stay on Vancomyocin, which is an antibiotic to prevent any more Hickman line infections.

Michael and Talitha decorated the room. It's a patriotic theme with stars and stripes. David sings "Twinkle, twinkle, little star" and loves to "touch stars" We have things hanging off the ceiling, walls, curtains and IV hooks ;-) and streamers. I put down a foam alphabet letter puzzle play mat to protect him from the floor. He's been playing with his new hot wheels and making them crash and go to sleep. I brought out his nesting boxes which his Aunt Rebecca sent him a long time ago. He's been mostly cranky today, but after a nap and dinner his spirits are better.
