To those that take steroids, does anyone take Zantac (Ranitidine) while on steroids? David's doctor said he should start taking it because he is on steroids. They said with any steroid use, the steroids irritate the stomach and they want him to start taking it. His stomach lining looked great, pink and very healthy. They sounded surprised that he has never had any type of antacid after 1-1/2 years of being on steroids. Please, have any of you run into this?
Now I have to figure out how to give it. It's a liquid, tastes a little minty and awful. Update: I tried his Spicey Cider from Trader Joes, which he takes with all his other clear medications, and he drank it.
I am appalled by the side effects by those who have taken Zantac. Here are personal comments from those people who have first hand experience with it: Click here

Jacob has been taking prevacid because he was on steroids. Apparently, steroids cause ulcers and prevacid protects against it. Zantac did not agree with him, so he was taking prevacid compounded while he had a nose tube (tasted disgusting). After the nose tube was gone, we switched to a tablet. Jacob says it tastes like candy. As far as I can tell, Jacob has had no side effects from prevacid, or at least they were so overshadowed by all the other side effects that he was not bothered.
Good luck getting home.

Sam was on Zantac from pre-diagnosis (13 weeks old) to probably a year post-transplant (20 months old. He had bad acid reflux pre transplant too. He was also on Protonix and carafate. He was only on Orapred for six weeks at the same time as the other drugs. We didn't see any side effects. I do know that Zantac also helps with allergic reactions. Sam had an allergic reaction to a drug and he was given benadryl and zantac. It might help David during the IVIG times. Currently, Sam is not on any acid blockers at all. Hope that helps.

Dear Aimee,
Happy to hear things are looking up. Shimmy was on Zantac for quite a while post transplant, don't recall any side effects, yet perhaps the other stuff going on overshadowed it,
hang in there
thinking of you from down under
