+1716 - No more steroids (prednisolone) now on hydrocortisone

We stopped the prednisolone steroids and are giving him the oral hydrocortisone called Cortef, which is similar to the natural hormone produced by the adrenal glands.  They want to know if he feels like vomiting because that could mean a steroid crisis.  Dr. Partap is handling the taper because of his papplidema.

The next six weeks on Cortef:

1-1/2 ml, 3 times/day - for two weeks
1ml, 3 times/day - for two weeks
.5ml, 3 times/day - for two weeks

Current meds:

4ml Septra - twice/day/mon/weds/fri
Cortef (see above)
Diamox - two tabs/twice/day
Levothyroxine - one tab daily

He saw Dr. Agarwal and Dr. Partap today.  Dr. Partap looked at his eyes and did not see any significant changes.  Dr. Agarwal saw his skin.  His hands and face are a little flared up because we went to Lego Land (April 20-24).  He was in the sun a lot.  I'll post some photos.

Aimee, I appreciated the photos with the March 5 update. What an adorable and beautiful little boy David is. I printed them and keep them where I pray. I'll be happy to see new photos.

People should not use all of these steroids such that these steroids have lot od negative impact on the body. Steroids promise bold results, but there is little proof that they deliver any such benefits.

Love that the list of meds is getting smaller. I hope that David does not have too bad a time reducing the steroids. Jacob definitely had tummy problems getting off of them.

Hey nice blog! I can tell you love your family. It's great that his meds are reducing. Steroids is defiantly not fun to be on.
