+1009 Sepsis and Other

David was admitted to PICU on April 27 for an unknown infection that Dr. Weinberg thinks was sepsis (blood infection). His WBC was high, and his kidneys were not functioning well. He also had very low blood pressure. He was in PICU for 3 days then transferred to the BMT unit. He will be inpatient until May 11. He recovered quickly with fluids and antibiotics and is doing fine. The blood, stool, and urine cultures all came back negative. We are not sure what got to him, but my suspicion is from the Etanercept shots into the skin. Also, he received IVIG 4 days before getting ill. The doctors don't think any procedures David received would have been the culprit (of course not).

Dr. Weinberg wants us to start photopheresis. Maybe I'll talk about that more. In the meantime, I'm not happy about that.

Please pray for a better alternative.

Dear Aimee,
I am glad to hear that David has stabilized and is on the mend. My prayers, hopes and best wishes are with you and David at this very challenging time. I pray that David's GVH resolves soon and that you do not have to resort to any more therapies for him.

Please take good care of yourself too.

With much love,

Sumathi

Aimee,
I had heard David was in the hospital, and I'm very relieved to read that he is doing so much better. I'll be praying for wisdom for any future decisions you have to make regarding David's treatments, that the Lord will give you wisdom and peace.
I hope you sense the Lord's pleasure in what an amazing mom you are this mother's day!

Love,
Andrea

Hi Aimee,
Happy Mother's Day. I'm sorry to hear about David's last hospital stay, but I'm glad that he is doing better. I'm sure it is taking a toll on you and your whole family. I follow another boy with an immune deficiency (NEMO) his name is Jacob and his website is www.cure4treebeard.org He is currently undergoing photopheresis (sp?). I believe they have had some very good results. You may want to check out their blog.
We continue to pray for you, David and your family. Kerry
